What is this?

Welcome to curryisacrook.com. You may find yourself asking, "Why am I here?" or "What is this?". I've started this site because I feel the world needs to be aware of the fraudulent and deceptive practices that the curry family of stealerships... err dealerships commit on a daily basis. From sales, to parts, to service; every department is guilty.
You may know the curry dealerships from their fancy commercials and flashy state of the art dealerships. The sad fact is that these nice and flashy things were all paid for by customers they've ripped off and raked over the coals. They even pride them selves on being "locally owned"... but how can you be local with dealerships in several different states?
What you'll read here today are not just my own personal views and opinions, but even concerns voiced by past and present employees of this fraudulent and deceptive regime.
Sales:
I can absolutely GUARANTEE that you will find your car cheaper elsewhere. You might think that's a bold statement, but that's exactly how confident I am in curry's incompetence. Like any sales job, you receive a base salary with a supplemental commission. Curry would rather pay a lower base salary and higher commission which forces their employees to try and get OVER sticker price for many vehicles. They'll argue left, right, up and down, that you will never find a better price anywhere else. They'll tell you things like MSRP is just a "suggestion" and that no one goes by that. They'll tell you that sites like truecar are pipe dreams, fictitious, and comprised of incorrect data.
Here's one example,
"I went to curry subaru to purchase a Subaru WRX STI Limited. There were none on the lot so the car would definitely have to be ordered. I had a price in mind (based on truecar) and a check ready to be handed over that day. This would have been, by far, the simplest and easiest commission any sales person had ever made. I didn't want the car prepped, washed, or waxed. I didn't want plate holders to be installed. I wanted the car, fresh out of the crate with no questions asked. They wouldn't need to store the car on the lot or have to pay anyone to clean it. A simple in and out transaction which required them to take my money, place an order, and wait for me to come get my car off of the delivery truck. First I was told that the price I wanted to pay (truecar) was ridiculous and that NO ONE would honor it. On top of that, curry wanted $400 OVER msrp due to its "exclusivity". After much arguing and speaking with managers, they "did me a favor" and dropped the price by $500. I was told this is the best deal I'd ever find, and that if I walked out to price match, I wouldn't be offered it again. I walked out.
I then went to 5 other dealerships in a 40 mile radius. Without telling them what curry wanted to charge me, every single dealership came in UNDER msrp, one at the price I wanted to pay, and one UNDER the price I wanted to pay. All of the dealerships after curry were eager for my business since it was so simple in nature, I didn't require any prep work, and they didn't have to worry about storing a car on the lot until it was sold.
After finally making my purchase, I called curry just to let them know how my experience elsewhere went. For 3 months they tried to convince me to cancel my order and come back to them. Stating they could "work something out" even though I was told that it would never happen and that the deal would be off of the table."
Parts:
Typically, you only have to worry about two prices...
-
The invoice price (this is what the dealer pays)
-
The manufacturers suggested retail price (msrp).
Anything over the invoice price should result in profit. Selling AT msrp will DEFINITELY provide a profit and then some. But... when dealing with a curry dealership, there is one more price you have to worry about...
-
The curry price (as far over msrp as possible)
That's right. Curry actually encourages their parts department to get as much over msrp as possible. Since they're commissioned, parts specialists will try to sell you parts at the highest rates found anywhere in the country. When you complain about the price, it looks like they're actually willing to help you by lowering the price as if they're doing you some sort of favor and even still, over msrp, you may think you're getting a better deal.
Just to give you an idea. An alternator for a toyota corolla costs the dealer ~$380. Curry wants over $700 and every other dealer gets between $5-600
Service:
This one is my absolute favorite and where the term "crook" really comes into play. Like many dealerships, technicians are paid flat rate. This means, that if the book says it takes 6 hours to change a water pump, the tech gets paid 6 hours. It doesn't matter whether the tech takes 4 hours or 10 hours, they get paid 6. Curry then provides "bonus pay" with a bracket like structure for every hour past 40 hours that they work. Some of their techs are being paid 90+ hour weeks when they aren't even in the shop for 40.
This is nothing more than an incentive to rush and cut corners. I cannot even begin to explain how many people I've sent to their dealerships with marked oil filters that were never changed, even though they were charged for labor and parts on an oil filter.
I've had people mark their tires and wheels before going in for wheel alignments and tire rotation and the tires were never rotated yet they were still charged.
I personally have brought my vehicle in for recalls. I was told that recall work was done on my vehicle, and then months later, get a notice from corporate stating that my vehicle never had this service done. When calling back I was told things like... "I see it was noted on the account, but it looks like they forgot to do it". In this particular instance, the warranty work should only take an hour but curry tells me 4-5 and that I'll need to leave it for the day. The reason for this is that curry no longer provides loaner cars... they've started their own car rental business and want you to have to rent a car.
There are technicians with STOCK PILES of brake cleaner, oil filters, and oil in their tool boxes because they tack a few onto the bill for every car they work on... and never use it.
Here's another example of a horror story with curry service...
"In 2011, toyota released a service bulletin stating that the alternators were faulty on several corollas produced between a certain VIN range. Unaware of this bulletin, I brought my car in in 2012 (still under my 3 year, 36k mile warranty AND I had the extended 100k mile warranty). I complained of laboring noise that was directly related to the A/C and alternator. When ever I would toggle the A/C the noise would get louder and slowly taper off. The noise would also get worse if I pulled up on the window switch when the window was already closed, the entire car would shake like it was about to stall.
At first, curry told me the laboring noise and everything I was experiencing was normal. I had them show me 3 other corollas from that year on the lot that made that noise and had those symptoms... they could not find one that would. After much back and forth, they decided to change the water pump and belt. The noise was still there, slightly less noticeable but I had finally given up on getting curry to fix the problem. Low and behold, JUST after my warranty expired, the alternator went bad. It wasn't until then that I saw the service bulletin about faulty alternators and the symptoms in the service bulletin were EXACTLY what I described to a "T". Now i was forced to pay out of pocket for a $700 alternator that should have been replaced by the service bulletin under warranty in 2012."
